The
track/DJ/party that made me want to be a DJ was:
Actually, I never planned on becoming a “professional DJ”. It just sort of progressed that way through the years. The whole communal energy and the diversity of people all coming together and gettin down at the old warehouse parties in the early 90's was very inspiring! I was playing in live bands at the time and thought that’s what I would always do, but then got really into DJ’ing at friends' house parties and then clubs eventually..... Im happy and grateful to be able to make a good living off of DJ'ing and writing and creating music full-time... So, respect and many thanks to the people who love and support the music!
Influences:
Everything from rock to funk, reggae, hip-hop, soul, disco and just about everything else. I also get alot of inspiration from touring and traveling all the time, being in various environments and meeting new people always opens your mind.
I
got my first break:
Playing at little warehouse and house parties.
Some
DJs I like playing with are:
There is alot of great local talent and you gotta support that! Too many to name...
Favorite
thing about the SF scene:
Diversity and character. There’s alot
of
great DJs and support from the people, which keeps this city
rocking all the time!
Least
favorite thing about the SF scene:
Sound systems and venues can always be better over all. I also wish the bars served later than just 2 am in California! We gotta get that changed eventually, and it would be a whole new kick in the ass for the city.
My
favorite SF party is/was:
Love Garage and Lift were always rockin. Boat Parties and Groove Kitchen were alot of fun also! The music was always much more soulful, fun, deep and funky. These days I always enjoy our Salted events. Always consistent with great vibes and mixed crowd, the way it should be.
My
favorite Club to play in is:
I don’t have just one favorite because it changes alot over time. Venues come and go. Some past favorites that stand out include: Sir Henrys in Cork (Ireland) was completely off the hook, but closed a while back. La Terraza in Barcelona was great.… The 'good vibrations' outdoor daytime festival tour in Australia was rockin….. Lokita in Mallorca is always off the hook. Pacha in Ibiza is a very nice venue with great sound. DEEP in LA is always great as well. There are just too many to name.
If
I could put together MY dream music festival, the Entertainment
would
be:
Meaning alive or dead? Hendrix, Burning Spear, Prince, The Rolling Stones, the Black Keys, Steely Dan, Gangstarr, Bob Marley, Tribe Called Quest, Zeppelin, Billy Holiday, White Stripes, Sade, I could go on for a very long time here on this one!
If I couldn't play records I would probably be a
professional:
My favorite thing is to write and create music, so I would work in my recording studio alot more often and focus all my energy on my live band 'Petalpusher'! I love playing live music and traveling, so i would continue touring... I also have my label 'Salted Music' so i would keep that rolling as well.
I want to thank these people for helping me get
this
far:
All the music lovers and supporters worldwide!... Much appreciation to you all!
What
you want people to know and we didn't ask:
Keep and open mind. Support indie artists and labels and music of all kinds!... And viva Don Julio!
My motto is:
"Keep it real!" and “Respect!”
