The track/DJ/party that made me want to be a DJ was:
Jondi: Qoöl & Spesh, for years I didn't DJ but only produced, but it looked really fun so I gave it a go and went to Spesh's DJ boot camp.
Spesh: For me it was back in the '80s, hearing DJs like Steve Masters mix on the radio. I was already buying tracks on 12", and I became obsessed with figuring out how it all worked. Doc Martin was the DJ who made house music click for me.

Influences:
Jondi: The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Depeche Mode, New Order, Talking Heads, Art of Noise, Psychic TV, KLF, LFO, Eric B. & Rakim, James Holden.
Spesh:
Sasha & John Digweed, New Order, Laurent Garnier, D-Train, Doc Martin, The Buzzcocks, and a thousand other bands, DJs, artists. I think I absorb something from everything I'm exposed to.

I got my first break:
Jondi: signing the first track I ever finished to a San Francisco dance music label (Megatech), then joining the Trip 'n Spin label collective.
Spesh: Around 1991 when Martel asked me to play at his new party, "Release" every Saturday night.

Some DJs I like playing with are:
Jondi: Hyper D, Hoj, James Zabiela, Jerry Bonham, Jax, and Pia D.
Spesh: Any of the Qoöl residents. A few more on the local tip would be Tyler Reed, DJ Splice, Scott Carrelli, D Spurlock, or anyone else with good taste and good skills.

Favorite thing about the SF scene:
Jondi: Freaks and phreaqs!
Spesh: There are so many parties to choose from every night.

Least favorite thing about the SF scene:
Jondi: After-hours licenses for venues are hard to get.
Spesh: There are so many parties to choose from every night.

My favorite SF party is/was:
Jondi: Qoöl (self-serving, I know, but it's true).
Spesh:
Qoöl for sure. Can I pick more? Sweet, Spundae, Opel.

My favorite Club to play in is:

Jondi: 111 Minna, but Sikamikanico in Oslo was really fun.
Spesh: There are so many really good ones, I can't decide. Sorry!

If I could put together MY dream music festival, the Entertainment would be:
Jondi: White Stripes, Postal Service, Dntel, Autolux, Massive Attack, Radiohead, Jondi & Spesh, Jonathan Lisle, James Holden, Momu.
Spesh: A two-day mixture of bands and DJs would be fun. Day 1: New Order, John Digweed, Moby, Momu, Jondi & Spesh, Adam Freeland. Day 2: Infusion, Sasha, Grayarea, Green Velvet, Underworld, Hardfloor.

If I couldn't play records I would probably be a professional:
Jondi: gambler, but probably not a successful one.
Spesh: Chef.

I want to thank these people for helping me get this far:
Jondi: my wife Kia, Spesh, Mark Musselman, Jackie von Treskow, Megan James, Christian Matthews, everyone at 111 Minna, all Qoölios, my family, all my roommates and girlfriends over the years who have more or less tolerated me learning how to make and play music.
Spesh: Astrid (my wife), Jondi, Jackie von Treskow, Megan James, Xian, John Digweed, Martel Toler, Eiming Jung, all SF's underground scenesters, and Astrid one more time because I can't thank her enough!

My motto is:

Jondi: The nature of the self is illusory and ephemeral. And it's probably a good idea to skip that fourth glass of whiskey.
Spesh: To be responsible to myself and those that I love. Also to always keep music in my life somehow.
