San Francisco, raised in Mill Valley (Marin County)
Years Playing: 12 years

What I drop depends on the time, size of the party and the energy of

The track/DJ/party that made me want to be a DJ was:
Raving in the early 90s while in college
definitely got me interested in the culture, the people, the DJs and
the music. Orbital Green Album was the first electronic album that I
listened to time and time again in the headphones. Orbital's 'Are We
Here - Laconic Dub' is still to this day one of my favorite 12-inch
singles. Early parties that rocked and made me want to DJ were: Wicked,
The Gathering, Rave Called Sharon and Black Diamond. The Sunset parties
over the years have been consistenltly fun. Props to Solar, Galen and
J-Bird for making these happen.
Influences:
All styles of music from
jazz and rock, to reggae and dub. I love current indie rock and have
to admit that I was a nu waver in high school loving The Cure, Depeche
Mode, New Order, etc.
I got my first break:
Promoting for Space Children
and Cosmic Bog in the mid-90s...took a break from the scene and then
came back and got my first club gig at Backflip (now Bambuddha Lounge)
playing everything from drum and bass to hip hop to house. Thanks, Janine
(Backflip manager then). :) WISH bar has been our longest running residency
going on five years! Isabel and Sean at WISH have been very good to
Sol and I..thank you.
Some DJs I like playing with are:
Jeno, Sol, M3, Laird, Dean
Samaras, Felix the Dog, Smoove and Mancub from Space Cowboys, DRC, Didje
Kelli, Michele Bass, Mike G., Sunwoo and Gordie, Melyss, J-Fi, Michael
May, Soren, Agnes B., Mikey Tello. So many talented DJs in this town..it
really is a DJ mecca!
Favorite thing about the SF scene:
SF's people and music make it second to none.
There are many popular styles in this city so it never gets boring.
New places are always opening up which keeps things fresh. The underground
parties have been kicking as long as I can remember and everyone seems
to get along for the most part even though it's a competitive market.
Burning Man was a life-changing event...I keep going back for more...
Least favorite thing about the SF
scene:
Let's push back the drinking
hours til 4am! Mean bouncers and bitchy managers or promoters can ruin
the vibe...especially if they are always micro-managing the sound levels
or if they tell you what you have to play.
My favorite SF party is/was:
Stompy, Sunset Boat Parties,
Green Gorilla and DHP undergrounds and of course, our own NK7 Parties.
Back in the day it was Wicked.
My favorite Club to play in is:
Many of them are fun. I've had some of my best times recently at the
Gingerbread Warehouse. NK7 Joya NYE party in Bayview was a great time!
Levende Lounge, supperclub, End Up, Ruby Skye, 1015, Mezzanine, PINK,
WISH and DNA Lounge all have outstanding soundsystems. Miami WMC is
a fun week...and I've had the chance to play some good ones out there
as well...
If I could put together MY dream music festival,
the Entertainment would be:
The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, The Beatles,
Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, Coldplay, The Police, U2, Pink Floyd, LTJ Bukem,
Jeno, Doc Martin, Miguel Migs, Adam Freeland, Sander Kleinenberg, Kruder
and Dorfmeister, St. Germain, Thievery Corporation... wow, now we're
talking...
If I couldn't play records I would probably be a professional:
Chef. I love good food...making
it and eating it. SF is blessed with so many good restaurants. No wonder
why so many people like this city!
I want to thank these people for helping me get
this far:
Everyone who supports the music. My
parents, family and girlfriend for being supportive of this crazy lifestyle.
Nitevibe.com!
What you want people to know and we didn't ask:
You get back what you put out there
so you might as well propagate happiness and good vibes. Be honest,
try to do what you say you are going to do and always do your best.
My motto is:
"Never let the fear of striking
out get in your way" -Babe Ruth
